Because of the recent advance in technology, children are learning more at a younger age.  Computer software has made it possible for children to learn and play at the same time all the while perfecting their computer skills.  Even websites like direct.tv are also now more interactive. The software you choose for your child has to be chosen with caution to prevent them from learning things that their maturity level is not ready for.

Preschool children need preschool software.  These can include software games like Reader Rabbit or games that are inspired by preschool television shows such as Dora the Explorer or Sesame Street.  These preschool games will teach your preschooler everything from letters to number, shapes to colors and everything in between.  It teaches them hand-eye coordination necessary for sports and things of that nature when they start school.

Older children will benefit from educational software with more of a mysterious twits or a twist that fits their personality.  If your child is into sports, you can find software that may teach your child math while teaching them how to play soccer.  You can find games that will teach your child how to use grammar while doing a fashion show.

For high school kids, you can find software that will prepare them for major tests and college.  The testing software can give them practice tests that will help with the actual test scores in the future.  This software is an investment that must be made for their future.  We now have more ways to ensure our children’s success and we should utilize it as much as possible.

With the recent advances in technology and software, you can find software that will fit any age group, interest or educational need.  If your child is falling behind in science you can find them a program that focuses on science, but utilizes the information in a fun and imaginative way, making learning more fun, and more retain-able.

Keeping up With the Times in a Fast-Paced World

Today’s society is ever changing—and rapidly so. In the not so distant past, we communicated by telephone (a stationary one) and kept business records on paper in towering metal file cabinets. In the “old days,” before smart phones, personal computers and the Internet, business was done by traveling to meetings and sending paperwork out through the mail or by overnight services. How quickly it all has changed!

Since the dawn of the computer age (the 1970s) and the rise of the Internet (the 90s), our world has been transformed by the ideas developed by computer geniuses working out of garages in Silicon Valley and elsewhere.

Technology has taken us very far very quickly. Not only have we become able to communicate quickly and stay in touch with people globally, we’re also able to receive new ideas on a greater level.

This ability to communicate also helps us stay in tune with changes globally, from the restructuring of corporations to the realignment of the banking industry and even changes in health care. Ideas that were once considered very “alternative,” like acupuncture and holistic health treatments, are now becoming part of the mainstream, largely due to our exposure to so much information and so many new ideas.

Here at Portalmes.org we’re committed to bringing our readers everything there is to know about new developments in communications technology and how it affects us in business and in our daily lives. Our blogs and articles will continue to stay in touch with the rapid changes in our ever-evolving society, so check in with us often for updates and news on what’s happening in our fast-paced world.

How Finance Companies Develop Loyal Customers

In today’s world, with so businesses going all-out to win new customers, it’s critical to maintain loyal customers for your finance company. This doesn’t mean that you have to spend millions of dollars in advertising. The old adage, “actions speak louder than words” would be an effective business model. Show your customers that you care about them as individuals, and that you are honest, and there’s a high probability that they will remain loyal to your company.

One of the ways that you can do this is by offering a variety of car refinancing options. In today’s economy, people who were once on solid financial footing are now struggling against the current. Offering them the opportunity to renegotiate their loans so that they can pay them off quicker, reducing the amount of overall interest shows them that you care about them as individuals.

A personal touch is rare in today’s business world. When you take time to talk with your clients, perhaps through emails on the Internet, there is a good chance they will remain loyal to your company. If you hear that they are struggling financially, consider offering a car refinancing option that gives them immediate cash in their pockets.  Explain that they can do this by renegotiating loan terms so that they pay for a longer period of time.

People today are overwhelmingly busy. In reality, your clients don’t want to spend time hunting around for a different company. When you show them that you care about them and offer good deals, they know they can trust you. You’ll have a loyal customer for life.

Microsoft Word 2010, Worth the Upgrade?

Microsoft Word first came out in 2003. It was upgraded in 2007 and 2010. This word processing program has added features and has simplified features that make it well worth the upgrade for some users.

The first thing users will notice is the office button is missing. Users found this inconvenient and confusing so Microsoft brought back the file menu. This new file menu is unique in the fact that it encompasses the entire screen. Its bigger size gives the user more control over the documents.

Microsoft also realized that security is a concern for users in today’s computer environment. They have added a feature that actually allows the user to encrypt their document if they choose to. There is a button to prepare the document for sharing and users can also check a document for compatibility.

Users that use Word for technical documentation will appreciate the enhanced ability to capture screenshots. There are also increased photo editing and artistic effects for users to try.

The ribbon with the 2010 version can be customized. This can save users a great amount of time. This allows users to add tabs that are used the most frequently and delete tabs that are used sparingly. Customizing increases the ability to create documents quickly for the frequent user.

It is up to the individual user whether they want to upgrade their Word software. If you haven’t upgraded since 2003 it is most definitely worth the upgrade. If you upgraded in 2007 check out the new features and see if they are useful enough to you to make the change.

A Guide to Blackberry Playbook’s Video Calling Feature

With the release of the Blackberry Playbook, users are discovering its wide range of applications and uses, one of which is video calling with other Playbook users.

A video call can be made by launching the application and adding a buddy to the listings. This has to be done manually by entering the Blackberry ID email address. Once you have added a person as a buddy, you can name them and add a picture. To make a call you simply click the icon to call the buddy that you want to talk to. The great thing about this feature is that you don’t need to have the video calling application running in order to receive calls.

The quality of the video calling picture may vary depending on where you are and what type of connection is being used. If you have a good solid connection, then there shouldn’t be any problems.

The video call features on the Blackberry Playbook work best when the device is held away from the face, or if it is sitting on a desk or table in front of you. This means you can be comfortable while making your call as you do not have to hold it up near your face. There won’t be any issues with sound quality when making a video call. The high quality speakers enable for a large range of volumes without distortion.

With constant updates being released by RIM for the Blackberry Playbook, the video calling feature will no doubt continue to keep up to date with operating systems and communication technologies.

Using the Latest Technology to Improve Internet Communications

Communicating via the Internet has come a long way in just a few short years. The technology is out there, but there are still a number of questions. These include:

  • How do you know which ones are compatible with the hardware on your computer?
  • Where can you find software, and how much does it usually cost?

The first question is fairly easy. First, find out which types of hardware are loaded on most computers and yours in particular. You may actually have a communications program already in place in your operating system. If not, once you find out what your computer has on it, you can compare it to the specifications listed with the different types of software that is available.

As for where to find software and how much it costs, here you have a great many choices. Communications software can be purchased online or through retail outlets. It may even be possible to download communications software directly from the Internet. Some downloads are free, while others may have to be purchased or you may have to pay a periodic usage fee.

Once you have found what you are looking for, and started using it, you may be amazed at how advanced the technology is. The types of programs that allow you to see the person you are communicating with may have clear, crisp images. Audio programs may be very good, even if you are communicating with someone in another country.

Making Long Distance Relationships Work

There are various circumstances which require some couples to maintain a relationship while living away from one another by a significant distance. Sometimes it is because of military duty. Other times it is job related. Perhaps it is while one goes to care for an ill family member. Any of these circumstances can put a strain on the relationship if precautions are not taken.

While there are other considerations for keeping a long distance relationship healthy, it is generally considered that communication is the most important because it keeps a sense of unity in the relationship. Decisions are still made jointly whenever possible. Showing love, affection, respect and support are still part of the relationship. The biggest risk to any relationship, though, is growing apart because of neglect.

Consistent communication is critical. Maintaining as close to the level of conversation time as you would if you were together will be helpful in safeguarding that neither party feels alone. Talking on the phone regularly is important. Take the time to discuss the same things you would normally would. It used to be that the lack of face time was a big strain, but thankfully technology has come to the rescue with webcams.

There is just something wonderful about communicating with a webcam and seeing the person you are talking with. Words in an online chat or email can be misinterpreted much easier than when they are accompanied with visual expressions and where there is the ability for feedback to ensure the message is understood.

No longer does being apart have to mean being out of sight and out of mind.

Skip The Phone Book

There was a time that everyone in the neighborhood could expect to find the latest edition of the phone book on their doorstep. Families would grab the old one, toss in the trash (no, they didn’t even recycle) and put the new phone book in its place. While you may still see that phone book at your doorstep, there is no need to keep it. As long as you have computer that can get onto the Internet you have access to the most up to the minute information available.

Try out sites that are specifically geared towards searching for people. You can head over to your favorite search engine and type in “find a phone number” or “find a person. Several different options will come up. Choose one and fill in the requested information. Provide as much of the first and last name as you have and if you know the city and state, that can make things even easier. Look through the information that you receive and see if you can find the person you are looking for.

You can also do a reverse look up. If someone calls you and you have caller id, you will be able enter the phone number and find out who was calling. This can be helpful if you are avoiding certain people. You should take some precautions as you begin your search. There is no reason for you to pay for this information. If you come across a site that won’t give you the number if you don’t pay isn’t a site you want to use. Just back out and move onto the next one.

Etiquette for Commenting on a Blog

The Internet has made information more and more accessible. Instead of sitting through an hour of news to find out what it going on, type a few words into a search engine and everything is immediately right in front of you. Looking for a specific recipe? Instead of searching for the cookbook and looking through the pages, visit a site online, type in the ingredients that you have on hand and a solution to dinner pops up on the screen. Many people are looking to blogs for information as well as a sense of connection.

While “stalking” a blog is reasonable, there may come a time when you would like to be more of a participant. In this case you can leave a comment on a post to let the author and others know your opinions, feelings, and ideas. However, you don’t just want to start typing without thinking about what you are going to say and how you want it to come across. You don’t have to agree with everything said; in fact, debate is healthy.

Make sure that your comment is on task with the post. You want to be contributing to the discussion, not just randomly speaking. If you are planning to disagree, be prepared for a response. Interestingly enough, everyone on the Internet isn’t friendly or nice and they may say unpleasant things. Just be sure that no matter what you don’t resort to name calling or personal attacks. While it may be tempting, people that do that just lose credibility. You can comment as often as you want and most bloggers enjoy having some that reads their posts frequently and provides feedback through comments.
